Here we are at Carnaval a few weeks ago, courtesy of a former co-worker I ran into. I look kind of goofy, but you already know what I look like.

New pictures. Basically of two new Rice University buildings. It probably won't mean much to you if you haven't been to Rice, but if you have, that Jones School building is pretty jarring.

Dog of the day, October 31, 2002. I can say nothing. Just look at it.

Pictures are up. I need a better camera, better gallery code, and a better photographer. So much to do...

When my time comes, I would like to be remembered with a billboard behind a Walgreens:
... not. Just give some money to the ACLU or something. Things like this are just tacky. No park benches or bricks, either, no matter what they're building.

Update: That is not a picture of Hurricane Isabella. It is not, however a fake; just misrepresented. It is apparently from Cyclone* Graham in the Pacific Ocean about 6 months ago. Link 1 and Link 2. In the Pacific, a "hurricane" is a "cyclone." Otherwise the same, AFAIK. I don't know where the picture came from, but I saw it on Victor's weblog.
That is awesome. Respect nature, kids.
When I get around to replacing my home-grown weblog software, I'm going to replace my home-grown gallery software as well. If they were easier to use, I would probably post more pictures. Of course, I'd have to take more pictures; my camera is a little bulky for convenience. My initial take on camera phones was that they were stupid; mute has convinced me otherwise.

From the same guy as before, pictures of his trip through Hong Kong, Yunnan, and Tibet. Those are even better than the other ones. I am so jealous.

My sister, my mom, and my two cousins visited today. Here are a few more pictures.

I found this cool moth in our garage:
We came across about 10 of these birds wandering around a nearby neighborhood:

I saw a pair of these birds in my neighbor's yard this morning:
I also made a larger collage of several images that's too heavy to post on the front page. They're clearly some kind of wading bird; unfortunately, I wasn't able to get any shots of them in flight; they have impressive wingspans. I'd guess they were about 18 inches tall standing fully upright. I'm not sure how clearly you can see some of the details; they have a reddish orange rim around their eyes and a thin white crest. I've never seen them before, so I'm guessing they're non-local migrants.

We're going to LA later this week. One of the things we're going to see is Griffith Park, which burned a few months ago. If deer had final words, I think I can guess what this one's were.

I don't think this is the intended manner of use for shipping containers.

I did this one at work. It's geeky even for a lolcat. Blurred for obvious reasons.
